How to Make Homemade Glycerin Soap

The easiest method for making soap at home.

Making your own soap at home is quick and simple with glycerin. Glycerin is often sold in large blocks at craft stores, and the process of melting it is easy—just cut it into small cubes that fit into a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup. You can even create multiple mini soaps using soap molds, which are widely available online.

What You'll Need

Materials:

  • Clear glycerin soap

  • Food coloring

  • A kitchen knife

  • A stirrers

  • Clean milk or juice carton

  • Petroleum jelly

Instructions:

  1. Heat the glycerin in the microwave on high, stirring every 15-20 seconds, until it’s fully melted.

  2. Add a few drops of food coloring to a bowl, mixing it with a coffee stirrer. (Remember, food coloring is very concentrated, so use it sparingly.)

  3. Lightly coat the inside of the milk carton with petroleum jelly. Pour in the melted glycerin and allow it to cool completely, which should take about two to three hours.

  4. Carefully tear away the carton and slice the hardened glycerin block into individual soap bars using a kitchen knife.

Enjoy your homemade glycerin soap!

Unlike cold process soaps, there is no need to cure glycerin soap, and you can start using it right away. However, there are some disadvantages when compared to cold process soaps. You can read more about them here.
